UCL-ARC will be hosting a Introduction to Genomics data wrangling and analysis workshop.
The target audience is learners who have little to no prior computational experience, and the instructors put a priority on creating a friendly environment to empower researchers and enable data-driven discovery. Even those with some experience will benefit. The goal is to teach not only how to do analyses, but also how to manage genomics data and bioinformatics workflows.
Location:
Day 1: Torrington Place (1-19)
Day 2: Institute of Education (IOE)
Day 1 -
- structure metadata
- organize and document genomics data and bioinformatics workflows
- access sequencing data on the NCBI sequence read archive (SRA) database
- navigate file systems using the command line interface
- create, copy, move, and remove files and directories
- automate repetitive tasks using scripts and wildcards
Day 2:
- use command-line tools to perform quality control
- align reads to a reference genome
- identify and visualize between-sample variation
Participants must bring a laptop with a Mac, Linux, or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc.) that they have administrative privileges on.
