The Teach and Code Socials are termly social and informal seminars organised by ARC Education in collaboration with the UCL community and beyond.
Teach and Code Socials aim to build community, and share knowledge and learning in teaching digital research skills.
This is a hybrid event with refreshments provided for those attending on campus.
Talk(s) will start at 4:15pm followed by networking.
Our speaker for this event is: Agnes Cameron, from the Creative Computing Institute at University of the Arts London (UAL).
Speaker bio:
Agnes Cameron is a specialist technician and lecturer at UAL's Creative Computing Institute, where she works with students to develop artistic work involving programming, electronics and e-textiles. Outside of her teaching work, she is a contributor to open data projects, serving on the steering committee of the Innovation Information Initiative, and has also worked for many years as a technical consultant to artists, musicians and game designers.
Abstract:
Agnes will talk about her work as a specialist technician at UAL’s Creative Computing Institute, including the development of the Technical Skills workshop program, which teaches extra-curricular ‘meta-skills’ that students can apply across their classes. Her talk will explore the idea of what it means for students to develop an agential relationship to technology, especially within a ’non technical’ context, and the facilitation of political, social and creative entry points to engage computation in an expanded sense.
