TechSocial turns into a Linux install party!
ARC is hosting a GNU/Linux install party on March 26th, and everyone is invited to bring their Linux T-shirts and sticker-covered laptops for a fun evening!
A Linux install party is both, a place for newcomers who want a taste of Linux or help with installations, and a place for Linux enthusiasts who want to experiment with new distros or help the newcomers in choosing their first distro. The event will start by a short introduction from researchers at ARC, and will then split into small groups of people hacking their way into Linux. We will have volunteers to help and everyone, be it a student, a researcher, or a professional, is invited to join.
Pre-requisites:
- A laptop
- A USB drive with 4-8 GB of free space (we will have some USB drives ready with distributions if you cannot bring one)
- Enthusiasm for open-source software
- Make a copy of/backup your data beforehand. Linux installations are safe but things can go wrong, and you don't want to lose your data. There are good resources to learn more about creating backups, but feel free to contact us if you need help with it before the event.
If you would like to try Linux without having to backup your data, we can help you run it inside your current operating system (Windows, macOS). We will be there to guide you if you do not want to install Linux explicitly!
The event is FREE and includes PIZZAS. There will be something new to learn for everyone!
Visit our TechSocials site to find more information regarding future dates, times and registration.
Make sure to subscribe to the ARC mailing list if you want to receive updates for future events.
