Urban Immersion Summit

Berlin is a place of constant change - a place where different worlds come together. The interplay of different cultural identities expands one's own view and questions subjective perspectives. Urban history emerges from this urban fabric.
But what makes a city? Who tells the story(s)? How do we form identities in the field of tension between spatial changes and interpersonal encounters? And what role does digital transformation play?

With the URBAN IMMERSION - Society, Art and History Re-experienced summit, we are exploring together how we can use digital and immersive media as well as artificial intelligence to understand new and old narratives of urban history, make them tangible - and ultimately shape them ourselves.
In workshops, talks and other participatory formats, we will explore this question together with top-class speakers on both days. Our aim is to awaken understanding and empathy for the omnipresent processes of change in urban space and to formulate concrete recommendations for dealing with technological innovations in relation to society and urban history.
In addition, we will present immersive and digital installations in the historical rooms of St. Elisabeth Church that deal with the interaction between analog history and the digital future.

URBAN IMMERSION is an event on INVR and was awarded a prize as part of the Innovative Formats 2023 competition organized by the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises.

AI and Archiving - strategies of historical narratives in a plural society (5th June |13:30 – 15:30)

In this workshop we will deal with questions of plural memory in times of digitality.
What possibilities and potentials does AI offer for the documentation and dissemination of knowledge and marginalized narratives?
What pitfalls need to be considered at the same time?
How can AI, in conjunction with a critical examination of gaps and omissions in hegemonic historical narratives, contribute to a multidimensional and multi-perspective culture of remembrance and help to break down barriers to access in this context?
And what are the limits and obstacles to the use of AI in this context?

Participation in the workshop is possible without prior knowledge. The workshop will be held in German and partly in English.
