Co-Resistance and Political Imagination in Palestine and Israel

Event description edited on February 3rd to note that Dr. Rula Hardal will be joining via video conference.

Join us for a public conversation between Dr. Rula Hardal, the Palestinian Co-Director of A Land For All (joining via video conference), and Israeli designer and peace activist Mushon Zer-Aviv; moderated by author and activist Zara Rahman, on approaches for building political imagination and moving beyond binaries.

Their conversation will delve into how mainstream narratives of the war in Gaza have been contributing to rights violations of anyone opposing the war, mostly Palestinians, but also allies, particularly in Germany. In their collaboration at A Land For All, Hardal and Zer-Aviv are working together towards building different futures, and they will share insights from this process, in particular the challenges of building political imagination in these circumstances. Drawing from his critiques of binary partisanship in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict Zer-Aviv advocates against simplistic one-sides empathy and emphasizes the pressing need for political imagination in envisioning shared futures. They will interrogate the urgent need to imagine not only the day after the war, but a truly just, pragmatic and lasting end to the conflict, and together they’ll explore how political imagination helps us to imagine "the day after" in Germany, too.

They will also discuss the role of political imagination in helping us envision diverse futures, fostering hope and actionable pathways amid uncertainty – in this context and others.

This conversation will not shy from addressing tough questions and aims to inspire and equip attendees with a different perspective on what is too often seen as unsolvable conflict.
