ada Studio would no longer exist without the artists who have been supporting, driving, questioning and also celebrating our work. After 19 years, however, we are increasingly asking ourselves where many of the artists who threw their first works into ada Studio and set out into the world with high hopes have gone. We don't have to fool ourselves - the label of emerging choreographer has nothing to do with content and a lot to do with marketing and even more to do with the state of our society. Anyone who is not visible and remains visible on their own merits is out. The disappearance of artists from the (Berlin) dance floor who have failed to make the transition from emerging to mid-career or established for a variety of reasons is a disaster. And it's all the more of a disaster because it's about a lack of appreciation and a lack of interest in the detours and diversions in (artistic) careers.
For “ada19”, we have invited five dance artists who have played an immense role for ada Studio and its ongoing development with their work and beyond. These five are representative of the many others who ventured into the professional work of a choreographer at ada Studio and whose traces we have lost in the years since or who are still present in very different ways. So, welcome (again): Rike Flämig, Raisa Kröger, Lee Méir, Maria Walser, and Akiles.
