As they transition into adulthood, an inner conflict emerges: While there may be a
rejection of heteronormativity in youth, an unconscious longing for certain romantic
patterns often remains. Four performers examine their own conditioning and societal expectations of romantic relationships. The starting point is stereotypical images of idealized love, which are subconsciously instilled from childhood — through films or parental influence. These images shape early expectations of love and relationships, which are later questioned.
„Fuck the state, I love you.“ explores the origins and influence of heteronormativity in relationships of female-socialized individuals. In the end, the central question of this theatrical exploration remains: Is it enough if only individuals let go of restrictive heteronormativity, or does the entire society need to open up?
