Esra (she/her) is a writer and literary scholar. She writes short stories, essays, reviews, scholarly articles, and cultural mediation texts. Canpalat is a laureate of the Ruhr 2021 Literary Award's promotional prize and took 3rd prize in the literary competition "60 Years of Migration from Turkey - New Hopes" organized by Dünya Publishing House. She is currently working on a PhD thesis on documentary gestures and transculturality in Turkish literature of the early 2000s and on a novel project about (post)migrant memory and intergenerational trauma. Her main topics are inter- and transculturality, anti-racism, gender, feminism, autobiographical memory and documentary writing/narrative.
