Introduction to Industry Foundation Classes (IFC - ISO 16739:2024)
Application (also for laboratories) of the free and native authoring tool BonsaiBIM

FOSS BIM Authoring Tool - Basic Training - BonsaiBIM until

In laboratories, as in any other assets, information exchange is one of the key factors for efficient planning, construction, and operation.
With ISO 16739 “IFC” stakeholders can use a free and open format that is becoming increasingly important - not only for cost and efficiency reasons.
BonsaiBIM is a free and open authoring tool. Both - the IFC format and the BonsaiBIM software - are complex and require a competent learning environment.
We use BonsaiBIM as it is available to everyone, but the knowledge you will get can also be used in other openBIM software.

The number of participants will be restricted to 10 people to guarantee optimal learning and support efficiency!

Key Benefits and Takeaways

Hands-on mastery of openBIM tools:
Gain practical experience with BonsaiBIM and other FOSS-based authoring tools for creating and editing IFC models in real project scenarios.

Deep understanding of IFC structure and logic:
Learn how the IFC schema actually works — from entities and relationships to property sets and geometry — enabling better data quality and model integrity.

Best practices for interoperability and collaboration:
Understand how to structure and exchange BIM data across different software platforms using open standards and model validation techniques.

Laboratory-specific BIM applications:
Explore how IFC and openBIM workflows can be applied to laboratory planning and equipment integration, bridging engineering and facility management.

Empowerment through openness:
Discover how FOSS tools and open standards give you independence from proprietary ecosystems, fostering transparency, sustainability, and innovation in BIM.
