Gender in Research: Opportunities for even more Innovative and Robust Projects

Funding institutions such as the DFG and on international level are increasingly demanding that gender aspects be taken into account in research projects. Against common believe that we thus have to ‘put gender in’, gender and other social aspects are always tacitly part from the outset in research processes, from the research question to publication. We cannot escape – but well reflect them and take measures in our research projects to balance them. This workshop shows how we can systematically analyze tacit aspects of gender, race and other categories of discrimination in our research in cultural studies and humanities as well as especially in the empirical social and natural sciences. Using well tried concepts from 40 years of gender research, philosophy and history of science, you will discover how gender can be used as an analytical tool for more exciting research questions and more robust results. This can turn your research even more innovative and inclusive.

Your trainer
Bettina Wülfingen is an interdisciplinary researcher and expert in gender in research from the early hour. She holds a diploma in Biology, a PhD in Public Health and is PD of Cultural History and Theory, located as a private docent at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. She taught as full professor at different universities, was fellow at Harvard University and published over 50 research articles in the field of gender and history of science. One of her latest articles is under the most read in the peer reviewed journal "Berichte zur Wissenschaftsgeschichte". She is also certified mediator and skilled in improv theater. About 360° Gender in Research
The project 360° Gender in Research advances the future of science by integrating gender aspects into all phases of research projects. Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) under the grant number 01FP23G03, the project promotes innovative and inclusive research practices. Led by the Center for Gender & Diversity (ZGD) and the Hamburg Research Academy (HRA), 360° Gender in Research supports researchers in identifying, considering, and addressing potential gender dimensions in their work.
