CANCELLED! Topography of a Body: Hairy Sceneries - Derin Cankaya
For medical reasons this performance has been cancelled!
You are invited to embark on an intimate journey with me, threading a web between the inside and outside of the body, between two cultures, the public and the private, the medical and the societal.
The work is inspired by my recent and ongoing diagnosis of a health condition which challenges medical and cultural norms around gender, hormones, body and facial hair. Emerging from childhood recollections and extending to the present, the invisible becomes visible and inner realms are revealed through making public the confidential medical documentation. Questions arise around normalcy, health and illness as the unique movement and sound of “disordered” body parts develop. The stage becomes a tangible map where I dance (on) the topography of my body.
Concept, Performance, Video: Derin Cankaya
Sound Artist: Dasha Belous

I’m Derin Cankaya. Born and raised in Istanbul, based in Berlin. I work with movement, and
images, and sometimes other things. Inspired by the virtual and untangible. Interested in the relation between still and moving images and all the subtle movements of the body, mind, and the constant communication between individuals, worlds and species. I have a background in film studies and I am a BA graduate in Dance, Context and Choreography at the HZT Berlin.
