How do we make sure that magazines reach out across national markets and linguistic borders? The world is super global. But different languages often divide us as much as they connect us. This can reinforce power imbalances within and between societies.
In this experience-sharing roundtable we discuss language, translation and journalism beyond the Anglosphere, and how we get from mono-lingual silos to multi-lingual nirvana.
We'll start off with the example of Translator magazine - and the challenges that has presented. Then we'll share experiences.
Please bring your magazine or publication if you have one.
If you can, please bring examples of situations where you have either translated, or wanted to translate. We want this to be an open discussion about the challenges and possibilities of working across borders and languages, what can stop us from doing so, and why we think it might be important.
Otherwise, just come to hear other people's experiences, so you can think about how you yourself can think and work across borders and languages.
