Kulturelle Koordinierung e.V. (commonly known as KuKo) has been a central platform for cultural life and civic engagement in Ilmenau since 1991. With over 200 members, the association brings together people from diverse backgrounds and interests to actively shape culture together.

KuKo currently hosts 15 working groups covering a broad range of cultural and creative topics – including choral music (AG DaChor), photography (AG Foto), film culture (AG FilmLebenFestival), traditional and modern dance (AG Ilmfidelhupf / Feuertanz), visual arts (AG Malerei & Grafik), ceramics (AG Keramik), model building (AG Modellbau), chess (AG Schach), intercultural groups such as AG PPI (Persatuan Pelajar Indonesia), theatre work (AG Theaterleitertheater), living room concerts (AG Wohnzimmerkultur), and fantasy and science fiction activities (AG Phantopia, AG SPACE).

In addition, the association runs a number of vibrant projects such as the Culture & Food Festival Ilmenau, the Theatre Trip to Meiningen, as well as intercultural music projects like “The Sound of Indonesian String” and the benefit concert “We Sing Together”.

With the NURIA project and the “Strengthening Together 2024” initiative, KuKo also advocates for social inclusion, diversity, and community cohesion.

Beyond its own activities, KuKo is strongly networked: as an umbrella organization, it supports the Hochschulfilmclub Ilmenau (HFC), the student radio hsf, and the Jazzclub Ilmenau.

In 2024, the association was honored with the “KULTURRIESE” Thuringian Socioculture Award for its long-standing cultural work.
