„How we became so beautiful“: Book launch with Rabea Weihser, moderated by Daniel Schreiber

We need to talk about faces. And about beauty. How do people shape themselves in the third millennium, what do they consider attractive and where do their preferences come from? Is artificial now natural?

In her non-fiction debut, journalist Rabea Weihser, previously head of the culture section at ZEIT ONLINE, guides us through the dazzling and crazy cosmos of ideals. How people make themselves up reveals a lot about their desires, but also about the society in which they live. From everyday observations in the supermarket, on the bus or on social media, the author dives to the bottom of our imprints. What is biology and what is culture? What has Kim Kardashian copied from the ancient pharaohs and what do the smooth, shiny surfaces of beauty influencers reveal?

“How we became so beautiful. A Biography of the Face” will be published by Diogenes on February 26. This book celebrates its premiere in front of an audience at PUBLIX: in conversation with bestselling author Daniel Schreiber, Rabea Weihser explores the effects of growing pressure to be beautiful. How we deal with this in society is an urgent question of media and humanity. An evening and a book that will permanently change the way we look at the faces of our time.
