Software Developers' Thursdays - DuckDB: Analyse massive tabular data in SQL with minimal setup.
Did you ever want to analyze that multi-million row CSV file using SQL? Is your current analytical environment struggling with the amount of data you have to manage?
DuckDB is simple to use. It's an in-process SQL OLAP database management system, similar to what SQLite is to OLTP. DuckDB provides a familiar interface, can be used from all common analytical environments, such as Python, R, Julia, node.js, Java, and also has an excellent command line interface. Some even have it running in their browser.
DuckDB is blazing fast. The column-oriented architecture and the vectorized engine outperform traditional databases by orders of magnitude.
Performance and simplicity are something we know from SQLite for transactional databases. Now, DuckDB allows this also for analytical workloads.
Last not least, DuckDB is fully supported by Ontop, the open source virtual knowledge graph engine.
Our eighth session of 2023 will be held at the space NOISE. Need guidance in getting around? Have a look here https://bit.ly/3zUDYFy, or ask for it at the Info Desk on the ground floor of the main building.
