Software Developers' Thursdays - Hacking Lego Boost with Java
Our fifth session of 2025 will be held at the space NOISE. Need guidance in getting around? Have a look here https://bit.ly/3zUDYFy, or ask for it at the Info Desk on the ground floor of the main building.
Lego Boost is a kit designed to introduce kids to robotics, but behind its colorful bricks lies a much more entertaining potential. In this talk, we’ll explore how to “hack” the Lego Boost system by bypassing the official apps and directly accessing sensors, motors, and smart features using Java — a full-fledged and versatile programming language. We'll see how to connect to the smart hub via Bluetooth, send custom commands, and read sensor data, breathing new life into the kit and opening it up to more advanced and creative projects. A hands-on session with live examples, aimed at makers, curious developers, and anyone who wants to go beyond the limits of Lego’s drag-and-drop environment.
