taz Talk der taz Panter Stiftung: Club Culture between Kyiv and Berlin

Artists and cultural workers fight for spaces and solidarity under war conditions — between Kyiv and Berlin.
A taz Talk from the “Lost & Found” series of the taz Panter Foundation.

The conversation will be bilingual in English and German. There will be no translation.

The event at the taz Kantine is devoted to club culture as a social and political space: What social function does club culture fulfil in times of war — and what role does exile play? How do artists and cultural workers experience the situation between Kyiv and Berlin? What can the cultural scene in Germany do to support these developments?

Speakers:

Andrii Yankovskyi – International Project Coordinator at UNight, working for the development and strengthening of Kyiv’s nightlife and cultural sector.

Ewa Nomad – Ukrainian DJ, music producer, founder of the Nowa project, now active in Berlin, engaged in projects and cooperation supporting Ukraine and war-affected people.

Kai Sachse – Researcher, consultant and manager at Clubcommission Berlin; experience in NGOs, political education, and digital media; participated in Berlin Clubcommission’s delegation trip to Kyiv in September.

Dr. Olena Lykhovodova – Art historian and cultural manager from Kyiv with over 25 years of experience in international cultural work and diplomacy; after her war-related evacuation in March 2022 to Berlin, she curated the Ukraine focus at the “Goethe-Institut in Exile.”

Moderated by:
Moritz Martin – Initiator of the Lost & Found format and Co-Founder of the event series and label Maniac; also project manager at the taz Panter Foundation and editor at taz lab.

There will be music:

Karine – Former resident and booker of the legendary Closer club in Kyiv, now based in Berlin, continues to carry the club’s legacy out into the world. She moves playfully between genres and is the host of the event series Delirious, which takes place at Berghain | Panorama Bar.

GAEL – DJ, producer, and composer from Dagestan who grew up in Ukraine and currently lives in Berlin. Beyond the club context, she has composed for documentary films and interdisciplinary art projects, always engaging with sound as an ever-evolving language.
