How and why would anyone take on Colombia's largest company? Award for Andrés Olarte Peña. With Harald Welzer as laudator and a stage discussion about difficult research in Colombia's oil and gas sector.

Andrés Olarte Peña was an employee at Ecopetrol, Colombia's state-owned oil and gas company. There, he noticed environmental pollution and the surveillance of activists. Why does someone become a whistleblower? Do they regret such a decision? And how do the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) and the BBC conduct their research when their most important source is threatened with death?

The Ellsberg Whistleblower Award was initiated by the taz Panter Foundation, the Wau Holland Foundation, the Reva and David Logan Foundation, and the Whistleblower Network (WBN) and is supported by journalism and whistleblower organizations worldwide.

The award ceremony is held in cooperation with Reporters Without Borders.
