Where is the future, Karin Prien? A Spotlight Conversation hosted by Publix and CORRECTIV

Our present is marked by profound upheavals – technological, social, political. In this situation, education becomes a key issue: for the cohesion of our democracy, for genuine equality of opportunity, for our country's capacity for innovation. Because if we are talking about the future of democracy today , we must talk about how we learn – from the early years of life into adulthood. In this special edition of the discussion series ‘Where is the future?’, organised by Publix in collaboration with CORRECTIV, Publix director Maria Exner and CORRECTIV editor-in-chief Justus von Daniels talk to Karin Prien, Federal Minister of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. How is the minister progressing with her agenda for better early childhood education and greater educational equality? And what does it mean to effectively protect children and young people from the dangers of hate, radicalisation, fraud and pornography on the internet – also with regard to the debate about a possible age limit for social media?

The evening will focus on the question of what democracy and education policy must now achieve to prevent further erosion of social cohesion and ensure that a child's social background does not determine his or her future. And equally important: Are the political goals backed by the necessary resources – and where could these funds come from in times of tight budgets? With plenty of time for questions from the audience. As always in this series, the aim is not only to identify problems, but also to work together to develop realistic solutions and visions for the future.

In this and future special editions of the series ‘Where is the future’, CORRECTIV and Publix will regularly invite high-profile guests from the world of politics to join the discussion. The first edition of the summit meeting is taking place as part of Publix's Nina Grunenberg Fellowship for Education Journalism and CORRECTIV's focus on ‘Education Reporting’.
