About
R Dev Day @ Cascadia R 2026 is an open, collaborative event for people interested in contributing to the code and documentation of base R, or to infrastructure that supports such contribution. Both new and experienced contributors are welcome!
It will be held on <bold>Friday, June 26th, 2026</bold>. This is a satellite event to Cascadia R Conf 2026, which takes place on Saturday, June 27th in Portland, OR, USA. It is not necessary to register for the main conference in order to attend the R Dev Day.
⚠️ Warning! This event runs in parallel to the Cascadia R Conf workshops on Friday June 26th - you cannot attend both the workshops and R Dev Day.
You can choose to join in-person at Portland State University, or online. Remote participants should be able to join the Zoom meeting from 09:00 to 17:00 PDT (see equivalent local time under "Where and when" section below).
Registration for the R Dev Day will remain open until Friday, June 12th, 2026.
Activities
Tasks are prepared in the run-up to the event, but will likely include:
- Reviewing, analysing and fixing code or documentation bugs reported on R’s Bugzilla.
- Contributing to message translations via Weblate.
- Developing contributor infrastructure, such as the R Dev Container.

There are food carts and cafes across the street from the venue for participants to buy lunch.
Lodging
PSU’s University Place is offering a discounted rate for conference attendees. Call the Hotel directly at 503-221-0140 and ask for the “Cascadia Conference” block. The discounted rate is available until May 25, 2026
