What does soil sound like, and what stories lie beneath our feet? Step into an immersive art installation at EnergieKas, where nematode data makes the hidden impact of land use on biodiversity audible. Studio Metaform and PhD candidate Doina Mani (WUR) take you into the invisible world of these fascinating microorganisms and their essential ecological stories.

• Snapshot of the impact of land use in the Netherlands: gain insight into how different forms of land use affect our soil and biodiversity.
• Nematodes as indicators of biodiversity: unearth how these small soil organisms are a valuable indicator for the health of ecosystems.
• Converting data to art: experience how scientific data can contribute to awareness and communication in a creative way.
• Co-creation: bundling multidisciplinary knowledge to establish measures and resources to nurture our soil.
• Networking and connecting: concluding with drinks and bites from Ran’s Kantine.

Studio Metaform is led by environmental engineer Emma Little and architect-sound artist Kaj Boonstra. Their practice blends art and science to turn research into immersive, sensory experiences. Through sound and spatial design, they create installations that foster embodied awareness and emotional connection to pressing social and environmental issues.

Doina Mani researches soil biodiversity as a PhD candidate at Wageningen University & Research, focusing on land use across climates and soil types. She also co-runs Tuinen van Hartstocht, an organic market garden in Abcoude.
