Creating Dance Reels - Lea Bethke
This workshop teaches dancers and choreographers how to create professional dance reels, a key marketing tool and visual CV for anyone pursuing a professional dance career. You'll learn to showcase your versatility, personality, style and professional experience in a compelling short video. It can be used for any situation where you need to showcase your skills and experience quickly and easily.
Part I: Introduction (1 hr)
Learn what a dance reel is and what it is used for, how to create it, how to structure it, select and edit clips, choose royalty-free music, present your personality, share it and prepare for a dance reel shoot.
Part II: Practice & Production (2 hrs)
Practice movement and dance in front of the camera. In individual and group work you will explore how your movement translates to video. You will learn to connect with the camera and enhance your on-screen presence. Afterwards you will receive the professionally recorded footage for use in your own reels.
The workshop will be held in spoken English, questions in spoken German are no problem.
Lea Bethke is an award-winning filmmaker and video artist specializing in dance. She studied film at Freie Universität Berlin and is self-taught in writing, directing, camera, editing and production. She has created works for renowned institutions like c/o Berlin and the Bode Museum and founded her own production company Sinnefilm in 2020. In 2023, she released her multi-award-winning dance short film "Until The Moon Is Born In The West". Currently, she is developing her feature-length documentary "Cinegeek" and co-writing the screenplay for "Last Trip" (Berlinale Co-Production Market 2024). Her work focuses on physicality, female sexuality and socio-political issues.
