The workshop addresses the notions of deficit and permanence of crisis as foundational to contemporary art production. Building on my own experiences of work in various scenes, roles, and contexts, and referring to the activities of the Work Culture AG (2020-3), I will share some simple tools for individual and collective analysis of the structural challenges and ideological frames faced and embodied by the cultural workers. Individual exercises and relaxed group discussions will aim at strengthening the capacity for self-advocacy and the ability to give oneself credit and a break. We will map together our relationship to work, how it shapes the sense of self, our positions in the world, and social relations. We will further bridge these to forces and systems of circulation that determine and define one’s “success” in the art field. The three-hour-long session will be based on self-reflection, brainstorming, exchange, and co-learning, with some more theoretical input on creative labour and capitalism available upon request. The workshop is open to all professionals working in the dance field, regardless of their specialization or role(s) or level of experience.

The workshop will be held in spoken English, questions in spoken German are no problem.
