Saite an Seite: Einsamkeit – Zweisamkeit

Retreating into a dream or fantasy world, turning to nature - these are some of the typical characteristics that we associate with the Romantic period today. Of course, this also includes a preoccupation with one's own inner life, with joy and sorrow. Where better to look musically for this constant intermingling of outside and inside than with the married couple Clara and Robert Schumann. They had to wait a long time for each other: countless letters and their individual works bear witness to their emotional world. One can find mutual references in their piano works and songs, almost as if the works were intertwined like the two people. In this “Fantasia Evening”, the great C major solo and duo fantasies by Robert Schumann and Franz Schubert are juxtaposed in order to celebrate the expansion of the “lonely I” into a “two-person we” together with cycles by Clara Schumann.
