Saite an Seite: Vergessene Heldinnen
Louise Farrenc, whose 150th death anniversary will be celebrated in September, defied the external circumstances of the 19th century and made a name for herself as an outstanding pianist, composer and publisher during her lifetime. As a pioneer, she fought for equal pay for her piano professorship as her male colleagues - anything but natural at the time. Her progressive and innovative musical ideas and compositions cannot be rated highly enough and can be admired on this evening. Students and teachers share the stage and present Farrenc's Piano Quintet No. 1 as well as Ravel's Piano Trio in A minor, which is one of the most demanding and virtuoso works in this genre. With Farrenc (died 1875) and Ravel (born 1875), the program thus marks both the beginning and the end of the great, in the broadest sense “romantic” French piano chamber music.
