Maison Ravel

To mark the 100th anniversary of Pierre Boulez's birth, we are celebrating a chamber music evening in a class of its own and transporting ourselves to Paris, the bubbling metropolis of aesthetics, impressionism and the avant-garde that followed. On the one hand, the tradition in which Pierre Boulez stood is highlighted: Maurice Ravel, Lili Boulanger, Claude Debussy and, particularly influential, Olivier Messiaen, with whom he himself studied. Boulez's Sonatina for flute and piano (1946) takes a special place in his oeuvre. He entered the musical stage with it in 1946. It remains one of his most frequently performed works to this day. Influenced by twelve-tone music, it reflects his confrontation with his teachers and role models Messiaen and Schönberg. Kaija Saariaho's Mirrors for flute and cello is a reflection into the 21st century. If you listen carefully, you will discover many connections between all the compositions and at the same time experience their very own tonal languages.

Claude Debussy: Syrinx (La Flûte de Pan) for Flute Solo | Lili Boulanger: Nocturne for Violin and Piano in an arrangement for flute and piano | Maurice Ravel: Chansons madécasses for voice, cello and piano, Ma mere l‘oye in an arrangement for flute, cello and piano| Olivier Messiaen: Le merle noir for flute and piano, Luoange for cello and piano | Pierre Boulez: Sonatine for flute and piano | Kaija Saariaho: Mirrors for flute and cello
