"It was 50 years ago today"
Lecture in English * 50th anniversary of Apollo 17, the last flight to the moon
Paul Salazar, Munich Public Observatory
Friday, 16 December 2022, 8 p.m.
at Volkssternwarte (Munich Public Observatory), Rosenheimer Str. 145h, 81671 München
Project Apollo was the third human spaceflight program from NASA in the 1960s. Project Apollo led to the first human landing on the Moon. The program featured crewed flights from 1968 to 1972 which ranged from test missions to lunar orbit missions to finally landing on and exploring the Moon. The final lunar landing of Apollo 17 took place 50 years ago, in December 1972, and no human has been back in lunar orbit or landing on the Moon since then. This talk will look back at the sights and sounds of Project Apollo with particular focus on the lunar orbits and landings, the science that was done there, and human experience that we all shared through the stories from the 12 astronauts who walked on the Moon.
If the skies are clear, guests are invited to visit the rooftop observatory and enjoy the views!
