In the piece 404 the central object of research is the integration of technology and live performance, human and machine. Concretely, the research will be based around three elements: music, visuals and dance performance. The jumping off point for the work is the impulse coming from the audience. The dance will be mostly generated by interactive commands from the public, in turn creating the movements which will form the basis for motion-capture based audio and generative visuals. What we are dealing with in these feedback loops is the eternal reflection of ourselves, and in 404, we seek to highlight the reflective and looping nature of humanity’s contemporary relationship to technology. The piece 404 invites reflection on our relation to technological “helpers” by inviting the audience to take an active role in manipulating the technology used in the performance, while at the same time highlighting the role of the actual humans/live performers who created and conceived the work.
