Dive deep into the essence of Forró Roots with this 4-part intensive course designed for experienced dancers who want to refine their roots style through technique, musicality, while expanding their repertoire. These classes are complementary and expand the content seen in the Forró Improvers and Forró Extension courses. We’ll place special focus on follower technique and variations.

The classes will take place in the large ballroom at kulturzentrum LUISE, he same time as the foundations course, followed by free dancing until 10 pm.

🔥 What to Expect

Each 90 minutes class builds on the previous one, establishing strong fundamentals, focusing on technique, rhythm, and body awareness. You can also attend one single class when having the prerequisites.

17.11 – Class 1: Roots Foundations, Musicality, & Trava Deep Dive.

Refine your roots foundations: rhythm, posture, and embrace. Discover roots-style variations for the basic step as well as trava, trava quebrada (sincopated), malandro, with special focus on the follower variations.

Prerequisites: Solid basic step in a close embrace (base 1), solid caminhada, good weight transfer, keeping the rhythm in different songs, good balance, connection, and embrace.

24.11 – Class 2: Roots on Open Embrace: Linear turns, Elastico, and Paulista Variations.

We will work on variations of the roots open base and simple turn, arm connection and elastic dynamics, and creating accents on the offbeat. We will review paulista turn and learn variations for leaders and followers.

Prerequisites: Open base (base 2), Simple turn with preparation and exchanging places, basic paulista turn, good arm connection, good balance and axis when turning.

8.12 – Class 3: Push-Pull & Follower Footwork.

Refine your connection, frame awareness, and body alignment, as well as footwork, through push-pull dynamics. We will also learn different follower foot embellishments for you to express your own style.

Prerequisites: Solid knowledge of trava and trava quebrada, very good rhythm and being able to break it (sincopated movements), embrace and posture control, actively maintaining connection.

15.12 – Class 4: Hip Unlocking & Leading.

Unlock your lower frame movements and connection through hip movements: chameguinho (quebra-quebra, coloca ao lado, bahia hip, and infinitive 8.

Prerequisites: Very good coordination, dynamic weight transfer, upper and lower frame alignment and dissociation, basic knowledge of chamego (xique-xique), being comfortable with belly contact and connection.
