SURVIVAL (Vinyl)

SURVIVAL describes the horror of surviving: how love feels after the death of the beloved. Composer Marc Sinan and his company have developed a contemporary digital epilogue to the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. What happened after the mythical singer lost his wife forever? The transmedial piece, with a libretto by Maike Wetzel, is the result of a German-Chinese collaboration. The Chinese version of the Orpheus myth, after all, is one of the most popular Kun operas: "The Peony Pavilion" from the 16th century. For SURVIVAL, a multi-part Orpheus cycle, the Marc Sinan Company cooperated with the young ensemble ConTempo Beijing. These exceptional musicians belong to one of the few contemporary ensembles in China that combine traditional Chinese and Western instruments. Enhanced by a wind quartet of the Dresdner Sinfoniker, SURVIVAL becomes a hypnotic blend of music, voice and language that brings Europe and Asia––in a poignant and beautiful way––together.
