The Git version control system has become ubiquitous, and its use has long since extended beyond software projects. This workshop is aimed just as much at those who know only three or four Git commands as at those who use it extensively and are looking for a more profound understanding.

This workshop will present the concepts underlying Git: the commit (no, it's not a diff), the branch (no, it's not a sequence of commits), HEAD… We will also introduce a graphical representation of these concepts.

We will use this graphical representation to distinguish between the merge and rebase commands and to present several use cases.

This session will be an interactive in-person presentation, with no hands-on computer exercises.

The workshop facilitator, Damien Cassou, is the author of a series of three articles on Git published in GNU/Linux Magazine (issues 277 to 279).
