A Movement Research Center

Spatial design and archive
created by Isabel Lewis, concept with Solvej Helweg Ovesen
part of the exhibition programme XO – Existing Otherwise | Anders Existieren (2021)

A Movement Research Center opens and is accessible from throughout the year 2021 in Galerie Wedding. It houses an archive dedicated to social and physical movement research, conceived by Lewis and Solvej Helweg Ovesen. It is a multifunctional space open to the public: a reading room, an archive, a meeting place, mediation and meditation space, as well as a backstage for performances in nearby public space. The book archive holds current titles on performance studies as well as activist movement research and can be read on site.

On the neighboring square in front of the Wedding town hall (Rathausvorplatz) the corresponding practices of movement research are enacted in a program of performances, informal showings, and guided workshops. How can we rethink urban space, assembly, intimacy and local ecologies through the body? How do we practice a new politics of the senses in Berlin today? The movement research center and its accompanying program have been developed in collaboration with Berlin-based artist and choreographer Isabel Lewis to explore exactly these questions.

PLEASE NOTE/ COVID-19 safety measures:
The archive can only be visited after prior registration.

The archive can only be visited by one person at a time, the wearing of an FFP2-mask and registering with your contact information on site are required for the visit.

We look forward to seeing you!
