Norwegian Jan Garbarek is one of the influential musicians of our time: countless record releases on the Munich cult label ECM, concerts in almost all major halls of the world, his years of collaboration with Keith Jarrett, and the unprecedentedly successful collaboration with the British Hilliard Ensemble in the "Officium" project have made this unique saxophonist popular.
Garbarek's sound has transcended the jazz genre to become a true trademark. His tone is so concentrated with his personality that it reveals itself in the first note—unique and unforgettable. In expansive soundscapes with hauntingly drawn melodic lines, Garbarek's compositions achieve an almost otherworldly radiance, a sensual sensation that leaves the listener calm and speechless. His soundscapes range from absolute silence to expressive outbursts: sparse, gentle, dancing, and hymn-like, at once simple and immediately understandable, yet incredibly complex.
Jan Garbarek is supported by his longtime companion Rainer Brüninghaus on keyboard, Brazilian electric bassist Yuri Daniel, and Indian master drummer Trilok Gurtu. All of them are excellent virtuosos and together they almost playfully embark on the musical journey to the magical moments that leave the audience speechless after experiencing a Jan Garbarek concert.
