Soul sensation Stefanie Heinzmann, who is celebrating her 15th stage anniversary this year, presents an emotionally funky program with the "MIKIs Takeover! Ensemble" that breaks the boundaries between pop and classical music. For the Swiss pop singer, this concert marks another prominent collaboration: After rising to fame in 2008 with the hit "My Man Is A Mean Man," she has shared the stage with global stars like Lionel Richie and Joss Stone in subsequent years. Now, we can look forward to hearing how the Swiss singer's songs sound in the classical Takeover arrangements—far removed from any stylistic boundaries.
The virtuosic violinist, hip-hop producer, and arranger Miki Kekenj effortlessly blends styles that are usually strictly separated with his chamber ensemble. He translates modern songs from pop, soul, and even rap into a classical musical language. The "MIKIs Takeover! Ensemble" has already created fine, imaginative arrangements for neo-soul diva Erykah Badu, rappers like Curse and Megaloh, electronic music icons like Marc Romboy and Moonbootica, as well as for the German soul royalty from Max Herre to Joy Denalane and Max Mutzke. Where rhythm sections, keyboards, and guitars usually provide a dense sound, with Mikis Takeover! Ensemble, you hear violin, cello, clarinet, and double bass. Thus, the music shines in a new light—and of course, unplugged! Nearly 20 mostly sold-out concerts have already taken place, yet Stefanie Heinzmann herself continues to be surprised by the magic: "Even if it sounds cheesy, I'm enchanted every night." There are moments in her performances with Mikis Takeover Ensemble where she almost forgets that she is actually the voice and face of this tour. She becomes so mesmerized by her own song in its new guise that she turns into a listener of her own creation.
