Following the critically acclaimed duo album "Where You Wish You Were" (2023, with Michael League) and the orchestral widescreen work "Bloom" (2024, with The Untold Orchestra), Laurance now takes a radical turn inward: "Lumen" is his most personal, introspective album to date - recorded in the stillness of night, inside an empty church, alone with two pianos and the space itself.
Laurance describes the experience as almost spiritual: not religious, but guided - as if he were not the creator, but a vessel for something greater. Some pieces follow meticulously notated scores, others emerge entirely spontaneously. It's precisely in this in-between space, Laurance suggests, that the true magic of music resides.
Using a Yamaha grand and a felted upright piano, he embarks on a solo journey - searching not for complexity, but for simplicity and truth in sound. The result is an album of striking clarity and emotional depth, shaped by silence, vulnerability, and trust in the unknown.
