SALESVUO SYNCOPATION! (FIN)
With SALESVUO SYNCOPATION!, Finnish top drummer Tomi Salesvuo presents a brand-new trio. His companions, Petri Puolitaival on tenor saxophone and Mikko Helevä on Hammond organ, are outstanding musicians of the Northern European jazz scene. Salesvuo himself has played with artists such as Anna-Mari Kähärä, Jim Beard and Wayne Krantz. With this trio, he takes a very different path from that of his internationally acclaimed EAST FUNK ATTACK.
SYNCOPATION! already points the way in the name: this band swings hard. On the one hand, the trio stands in the tradition of the great soul jazz and hard bop organ trios, such as those led by Jimmy Smith or Barbara Dennerlein. On the other hand, the three often draw on songs from the “Great Finnish Songbook” – pop and tango hits from Finland – and turn them into jazz.
