The fact that renowned drummers like Yussef Dayes and Questlove count themselves among her admirers underscores Salin's position as one of the most exciting voices in the global jazz scene. The Thailand-born and Canada-based drummer, producer, and composer sets new standards in global jazz with her unique fusion of afro-jazzy grooves, West African psychedelia, and traditional music from Northeastern Thailand (Isaan).
As a pioneer of the genre she created, "Afro-Isaan Soul," Salin combines the sound worlds of Molam, funk, and soul into a captivating, danceable sound that transcends cultural boundaries.
Her critically acclaimed second album "Rammana" (2025) is considered a milestone in intercultural music, featuring traditional instruments like Khene and Phin combined with Afrobeat elements and modern soul productions. The title refers to a traditional song of the Urak Lawoi and symbolizes the connection between African and Asian musical traditions. Her music can best be compared in its complexity and groovy warmth to the band "Kokoroko."
In addition to her solo career, Salin produced the Juno Award-nominated album "Donte Sann Yo" by the Haitian duo Bel & Quinn. Her live performances, such as at the CHANEL Summer Tour in Bangkok or the New York Winter Jazz Festival, are characterized by energetic playing and a strong stage presence, supported by her high-profile 6-member band, which takes the audience on a sonic journey between worlds – modern, tradition-conscious, and hypnotic.
