Since their beginnings as a psychedelic band in the late 60s, when they shared stages with Pink Floyd or Jimi Hendrix Experience, they developed into one of the most famous fusion bands. They influenced several generations with their sound and are still quoted by hip experimentalists today.
Soft Machine now exists as a quartet with the original members from the founding era that recorded the acclaimed "Softs" album in 1975, augmented by the outstanding saxophonist Theo Travis (Robert Fripp/David Gilmour/Gong). They play material from that era (compositions by Hugh Hopper, Mike Ratledge, Karl Jenkins) as well as many contemporary works, as heard on their album "Hidden Details", released in 2018, exactly 50 years after the release of the 1968 debut album "The Soft Machine".
In April 2020, Soft Machine released their latest album "Live at the Baked Potato" with the current lineup, recorded in the legendary club in Los Angeles, USA.
