Four singles, two "Perfect Matches," and an algorithm that knows best—in this reimagining of Rossini’s L’Occasione fa il ladro (Opportunity Makes a Thief), opera meets reality dating show. The clock is ticking: 45 minutes to find out if calculated happiness can actually be felt.
Naturally, nothing goes according to plan. A secret role swap among the women is intended to boost tension and ratings, but when the men start swapping as well, the show spirals out of control. Roles, emotions, and rules blur as the host desperately tries to sell the chaos as part of the script.
With Rossini’s sparkling score, this production offers a witty reminder of how absurd it is to try and plan emotions. In the end, one realization stands: algorithms can do a lot, but you simply can't calculate where love will land.
