Klingerhuf: The First Chapter
Klingerhuf: The First Chapter
From a historic community space to a future student haven
AStA and Study & Chill Lounge are joining the first student restoration phase at Klingerhuf in Neukirchen-Vluyn.
Klingerhuf is a historic space that was once strongly connected to the local mining community and to the people who shaped the area around it. It used to be a place where people gathered, played, celebrated, and built community.
At certain points in its history, Klingerhuf reportedly hosted crowds of up to 20,000 people!!!
Now, a new chapter is beginning.
The local partners are happy to welcome our student community and are open to coordinating the future use of this space with us.
It is an opportunity to help prepare a space that can become our indoor and outdoor student haven over the next weeks for the future:
a place where we can hang out, play football, host future events, organize meetups, create parties, plan concerts, cook and build a stronger student-community life beyond campus.
Before we can use the space for all of that, we need to help make it ready.
This first day is the beginning.
Together, we will help with:
- clearing overgrown areas
- removing weeds and vegetation
- preparing the area for future student and community use
- making the space visible, accessible, and alive again
No special experience is needed and the ash place is actually much easier to take care of than the surrounding areas.
So while we are having fun doing this with friends and locals we actually are being part of the first group helping turn Klingerhuf into a living space again.
Why this matters
Once we show up, contribute, and treat the place responsibly, Klingerhuf can become a real outdoor home for student life:
for sports, music, gatherings, culture, events, and memories.
The space already has history.
Now we help give it a future.
The people who join us now are the first chapter.
