pretix is now a Certified Peppol Service Provider

Nov. 13, 2025

We are proud to announce that we have completed certification as a Peppol Service Provider and have launched our Peppol Access Point service. This marks an important step in ensuring that pretix remains a one-stop solution for everything required to sell tickets, including creating and sending invoices.

What is Peppol?

Peppol is an international network to exchange commercial documents (such as invoices) between business entities (such as companies and governments). Each company or institution that participates in the Peppol network is identified by a unique participant ID. This participant ID is built from existing ID schemes, such as tax IDs or company registration IDs. Within the Peppol network, this ID functions as a the address of a company, just like an email address or phone number. The Peppol network has started as a project of the European Union, but today is operated by an independent non-profit organization registered in Belgium.

To be able to send or receive messages through the Peppol network, you need to use a Peppol-accredited service provider. These service providers fill a similar role as your email provider or telephone company: They are responsible for connecting with all the other service providers out there and deliver and receive documents on your behalf. In e-invoicing terms, this is called a 4-corner model because 4 parties are involved with the transmission of an invoice:

E-invoicing is a hot topic all over Europe, with new laws effective in Germany as of this year and about to come effective in France, Poland, Belgium, and many other countries. Right now, these approaches all look different, but the European Union plans to introduce a unified real-time reporting system for B2B invoices sent across Europe starting in 2030. We believe there is a good chance that this unified system will be built on Peppol as a basis and Peppol might become the primary way of sending invoices within Europe. For this reason, we made the strategic choice to invest into becoming part of the Peppol network ourselves instead of utilizing a third-party provider. We consider this an essential building block for the future, and we want to make sure you get it with the quality you are used to without any compromise.

Who can use Peppol?

Basically, everyone can use Peppol for sending and receiving invoices. However, we believe our Peppol integration is currently most interesting to the following groups of organizers:

  • All organizers based in Belgium. Starting January 1, 2026, the usage of Peppol is mandatory for all B2B invoicing within Belgium. So if you're based in Belgium, you only have a few weeks left to be Peppol-ready in order to comply with upcoming laws.

  • Organizers with a lot of government customers. Peppol is originating from a European e-procurement project and governmental entities all over Europe are accepting invoices through Peppol. For example, in Germany all government entities with a "Leitweg-ID" are reachable via Peppol, and in Luxembourg Peppol is the only way to send an invoice to government entities.

  • Organizers in countries or industries where Peppol becomes a standard way of sending invoices, such as some of the Scandinavian countries.

Our Peppol services are currently available to all organizers with their company registration in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, or Sweden. If you are interested in using Peppol in other countries, please reach out to us! Our Peppol integration is only available on pretix Hosted, as the invoices need to be sent through our infrastructure with our service provider certificate.

When entering their invoice address during checkout, business customers can now set the invoice transmission method to Peppol and enter their Peppol participant ID:

After the invoice was created, pretix will automatically transmit it through the Peppol network. You can view the transmission status in the order details.

Becoming a Peppol Service Provider is a considerable investment, as participation in the Peppol network involves costs and requires us to keep up to date with changes in this quickly evolving ecosystem. Therefore, we have decided to charge an additional fee of €0.20 per transmitted Peppol invoice. While other service providers charge high onboarding or monthly fees, we believe it is best to stay true to our basic principle of only charging you for what you use – no strings attached.
