Release 1.0.0 of pretix and start of our hosting service
After 28 months of development, we are releasing the first stable version of pretix today, the most powerful open source ticket shop for all kind of events that has been released so far. We are proud and happy to finally take this step. At the same time, we are starting our commercial hosting service that allows you to use pretix without having to worry about anything other than your event.
A huge thank you goes out to all the contributors that improved pretix' source code and documentation, to all people who have given feedback on the user interface, to all the event organizers that already used pretix and to the beta customers of our hosting service.
Hosting service
Starting today, you can easily sign up for our paid hosting service. If you choose to do so, we'll take care of all the technical parts for you and keep pretix up to date, so you can focus on running your event.
We charge you 2.5% + VAT of your ticket price for our service, which we believe to be a fair price that is at the same time lower than most of our competitors. We take no fixed charges, because we don't want to discriminate low-price events. This also means that if your event is free for your participants, our service is free for you as well! If you run an event with very high ticket prices, our fee will be capped at 15 € per ticket.
If you run a charity or non-profit event or if you plan to sell more than 5,000 tickets per year, please contact us at support@pretix.eu for special prices.
One of the ways in which we are different from our competitors is that all money transfers go directly from the participant to you, e.g. directly to your bank account or your PayPal account. This requires slightly more work from your side (e.g. creating a PayPal account), but makes you more independent from us and allows you to receive your money as soon as possible – and not only after the event.
If you choose our hosting service, you also help us to fund the ongoing development of pretix.
Open Source
pretix is an open source project at its core. We develop pretix completely in the open and we are committed to grow its community further. If you are using pretix, we kindly ask you to contribute back to the project. This can not only be code, there is a way larger number of ways you can make useful contributions. For example, we need to rely on your feedback about bugs, new features or interface improvements. You are also always welcome to help us improve our documentation.
Also, we don't only need contributions to pretix itself, the same holds true for pretix' growing number of plugins. Whether you contribute to an existing plugin or create a new one to e.g. support a new payment provider, we'd be happy if you make your modifications open source and share them with the community.
If you want to install pretix on your server for production usage, we provide multiple tutorials in our documentation. If you just want to try it out on your local machine, we have made it very easy to do so. On a unix-like system you can just run
pip3 install pretix
python3 -m pretix migrate
python3 -m pretix runserver
You can then point your browser to http://localhost:8000/control/ and log in with admin@localhost and password admin.
Enterprise & custom development
If you are planning a larger deployment of pretix in-house or if you would like us to prioritize a certain feature that you need, we are looking forward to talk to you. Just send us an email.
The Future
We have great plans for pretix and a lot of ideas. We are planning to publish a new release including new features every 4-8 weeks, with bugfix releases in between as required. To keep updated, we recommend subscribing to this blog or to @pretixeu on twitter.
